ROX Shortlisted at Prestigious Scottish Fashion Awards 2010

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

We are delighted to announce that ROX has been shortlisted at the prestigious Scottish Fashion Awards 2010. ROX is competing against Scotland’s leading fashion talent in the category of ‘Scottish Fashion Retailer of the Year’ and is the only jewellery brand to be shortlisted.

The Scottish Fashion Awards recognises the country’s most promising talent in the fashion industry and each year attracts Scotland’s great and good at a glittering ceremony held on Sunday 20 June 2010 at the Glasgow Science Centre. Managing Director of ROX, Kyron Keogh, said: “It is a huge achievement for ROX to be recognised at the Scottish Fashion Awards and I was thrilled to hear that we have been shortlisted – it really affirms our position in the Scottish fashion industry. We are taking jewellery retail to new heights in Scotland and will continue to take risks with our product range and marketing as we aim to show that fashion jewellery is every bit as worth investing in as a new Mulberry bag.”

ROX’s high fashion approach to jewellery has successfully positioned it as one of Scotland’s most daring jewellers with its contemporary selection of jewellery from brands including ToyWatch, Thomas Sabo, Links of London and Monica Vinader which join its stunning range of diamond jewellery. ROX has also just recently launched its own line of fashion jewellery with its range of colourful ROX ‘Viva’ friendship bracelets.

The Most Popular Diamond Cuts

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

The cut of stones used in diamond rings, earrings, and other jewellery has a significant impact on the look and style of the final product. Cut is one of the four Cs of diamond quality, and while different cuts are used for different diamond jewellery purposes, a particular kind of cut may also be chosen to avoid flaws in the raw stone or make the best of an oddly shaped fragment. The various cuts gather light into the stone and make the diamond sparkle in different ways, too.

The most common cut found in diamond rings is the round brilliant. Two of this shape fit into a normal diamond crystal without much wasted material. The style evolved over centuries, and now modern laser cutting methods mean that very elaborate round brilliants can now be made. This kind of cut gathers light well and produces an excellent sparkle.

Sometimes called a square modified brilliant cut, this style uses diamond crystal even more efficiently than the round brilliant cut. That is the reason that a princess cut diamond ring will usually be slightly cheaper than a ring with a round brilliant stone of the same carat weight, even if the two are of the same quality.

The marquise cut is more oval in shape. Drop-style diamond earrings in this cut are common although it is also used effectively in rings. There are hundreds of other designs, most of them falling under the ‘fancy cut’ heading.

Does your diamond define you?

We’re going Sex and the City crazy here at ROX in anticipation of the new film coming out at the end of May. And probably like most SatC fanatics we’re working our way through the boxsets to refresh our memory on just why we fell in love with fantastic foursome.

We’re at the episode where Carrie found the ring Aiden was originally going to propose and she HATED it? It kinda got us thinking so we went to our good friend Diamondalicious for her thoughts on it…

My reaction was “hmmm it’s a perfectly lovely looking pear cut diamond ring you ungrateful wench”  but maybe she had a point… I can’t help but wonder (notice the Carrie-ism?) – do we have a diamond personality?

Are we a classic brilliant cut diamond ring?  Or maybe you like the clean lines of the emerald cut?  Did you envy the young Miss Victoria Adams and her perfect marquise cut diamond ring from Mr Beckham?  What about the lesser known options like the Assher cut = a hymn to deco or the flanders cut with it’s square design and additional facets?

Of course Carrie was under whelmed with the rather large pear cut solitaire which Aiden had picked out and there was the inevitable long discussion over brunch – luckily Samantha came to the rescue and secretly took him shopping for the perfect square stone.

So if we have a style for our hair, a style for shoes, a style for work wardrobe and a different style for casual then it only stands to reason that we have a diamond style.

Would you buy a wedding dress without trying it on?  Would you buy shoes without trying them on and checking them out from every angle?  No, of course we wouldn’t, so don’t be afraid – you can try diamonds on.  Of course you can, the staff at Rox are fabulous for making you feel special.  They don’t hurry you – they KNOW that this is a big purchase and you should take your time and try different styles and different sizes.  Jewellery buying for me has always been the least pressured environment so sit back and enjoy the experience!

First of all, you need to select the diamond ring or the piece of jewellery you want. At ROX we have a comprehensive catalogue of diamond earrings, ladies and gents watches, and of course rings of all kinds for all occasions. On this site we host articles with all the information you need to make that choice. You can find our helpful jewellery buying guides under ‘Customer Service’ at the bottom of the home page.

Of course, diamond engagement rings are usually a surprise so you might have to be a bit sneaky to find that out. If you can’t manufacture the right moment to ask without attracting suspicion, a good trick is to ask your intended’s mum. She will probably know, or might be able to help you get the information you need. However, don’t worry too much. You can always have the ring resized. At ROX we offer a single free resize with any online purchase.

You can put a deposit down or pay in a single lump sum, and then we’ll arrange delivery. Of course, we need to send diamonds by a trackable and guaranteed delivery service, so we use either Royal Mail Special Delivery or DX Secure Mail. For all orders over £50 in value, postage is completely free to you.

If the jewellery you receive isn’t what you expected for any reason, we will happily offer a full refund or an exchange on it if returned within 14 days of receipt.
