Watches: Practicality Married To Elegance

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

A great watch can turn any outfit into a stylish affair, and can add sparkle or modern elegance depending on your tastes. They are unique accessories, however, in that they are not only stylish pieces but are triumphs of modern ingenuity and engineering.

Quartz watches are especially ingenious but are now so ubiquitous that you’re probably wearing one yourself! They work by the “piezoelectric oscillation of quartz crystals”. This might sound ridiculously technical, but it is actually a fairly simple mechanism, and involves the regular oscillation of quartz crystals. This means that quartz watches are unrivalled in terms of accuracy.

Mechanical watches involve more traditional mechanisms to keep time and they are, therefore, not as accurate as quartz watches. However, they do have an aspirational semblance and high-quality antique pieces will invariably be mechanical. The often complex mechanics of mechanical watches involve a lot of expertise for their construction, this means that some bespoke and premium brand watches can be rather expensive.

Digital watches with LCD screens are perhaps the most versatile and durable of all watch types; this makes them ideal pieces for sporting activities or for occasions when practicality is demanded. Whilst they can be great time pieces with unrivalled features e.g. water resistance or stop watches, their functional nature means they are not ideal as ladies watches for dressy occasions.

Whatever kind of designer watches you go for
, watch technology is no so evolved as to guarantee only the best in terms of functionality and quality, making a watch not only a great fashion accessory but a highly functional modern piece!

Make A Style Statement – With Men’s Watches

Monday, March 15th, 2010

It’s fair to say that men don’t have too many opportunities to make a style statement, and are often inhibited – by work commitments, for example – to certain kinds of dress. However whether you’re in business attire or even casual clothing there is a fantastic way to add some true style and elegance to an outfit with mens watches.

Just like in all high-quality fields the market for mens watches is governed by some awesome brands, each investing in their products not only with super quality but also with aspirational worth. Some great watch brands (that we’re sure you’re familiar with) include Gucci, Armani and Diesel and you’ll notice that many good watch brands are also very famous fashion houses – so that with a watch from them you can truly buy into a bit of high fashion!

Premium branding isn’t all that makes a watch truly elegant, however, and the best and most stylish watches are constructed out of only the finest materials, including gold, silver and platinum, this means that mens watches are ultra-durable and ultra-aspirational.  Many men’s watches even have faces that are jewel encrusted, which can show off real elegance and affluence.

Of course men crave functionality and therefore style over practicality is not an option and, instead, watches have got to as durable and accurate as they are sylish. Luckily, with the latest technologies, watchmaking has never been such an exact science, and with watches such as “chronographs” you can be guaranteed of perfect functionality!.

The History Of Time

Friday, February 26th, 2010

When we come to purchase watches, it is often a rarity that we think about the sheer brilliance of the invention of the watch. At Rox, we believe that a time before designer watchmakers is a time hard to imagine, however, there is a very interesting history behind the little bit of timekeeping and modern watches we now adorn our wrists with.

The history of watches began with cavemen, a group that had to observe the sun and shifting of shadows throughout the day in order to determine a good time for doing particular things. Hunting was a pursuit especially determined by the position of the sun in the sky. Longines-HydroConquest-Chronograph-Watch.jpgAround 4000 B.C., knowledge of astronomy began to develop and people began to use the sun, moon and the stars to form a calendar system. When the word Zodiac is mentioned these days, many people initially think of horoscopes and personality profiles, however, before this, the Zodiac was a chief aspect in the creation of timekeeping.

In terms of the first actual watch as we would refer to it today, it is believed that it was developed in approximately the year 1500. Enormous clock towers evolved into smaller, more portable devices over time; however the first watch faces were actually attached to belts or necklaces. These first inventions were also very heavy and egg-shaped, which shows just how much of a change the watch market has undergone.

Nowadays, designer watches are a device that we often take for granted. However, next time you check the time, it is worth considering their deep history and thanking our cavemen ancestors for their fascination with time!

Choosing the perfect Watch for your girlfriend

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

When shopping for the special lady in your life, watches make a lovely gift representational of her and your relationship. At ROX we realise that sometimes gentlemen don’t have a clue where to begin when choosing such a gift, however there are just a few things to consider.

Your budget is important, as it is easy to get carried away when thinking about someone you care about. Set yourself a realistic budget and be sure to stick to it whilst shopping. This way you won’t find yourself gazing in disappointment at extravagant watches that you may not be able to afford.

Consider the lifestyle of your loved one. If she’s an adrenaline junkie and lives her life enjoying outdoor pursuits, a watch with sports facilities may be a thoughtful and practical option. If she’s something of a fashionista, large faced designer watches may be perfect.D&G-Flock-Black-Dial-Black-Strap-Watch.jpgTake a sneaky peek through her wardrobe and have a look at the type of accessories she usually wears. If her wardrobe is loud, colourful and statement making, then watches needs to do the same thing. If it’s dainty, pretty and girly, a simplistic, elegant watch may just do the trick.

It is also worth considering some kind of engraving when making your watch purchase for the lady in your life. You can add engraving on the back of the face or inside of the strap, which is a thought that will have your girlfriend absolutely thrilled and will personalise the gift to remind her of the lovely man that bought it for her.

Looking Elegant In The Finest Ladies Watches

Monday, December 28th, 2009

As a woman, time is very important to you. Not only is time of the essence but the way time looks on your wrist is equally as important. While many women hope to receive a watch as a Christmas, birthday or anniversary gift, there is nothing wrong with buying your own watch.

Where to buy a good quality watch

There are a number of online stores in the UK selling a great selection of watches for ladies. ROX is one such store that brings a diverse range of watches to you. We have some of the biggest names in watch designs. From Hugo Boss to DKNY, Diesel, Juicy Couture, Links and so much more.

Every watch is elegant and sophisticated and comes with a 12 month guarantee. You can choose from our range of bracelet, bangle and strap pieces to suit your style.

Trends in watches

While the trends keep on changing, what always remains a classic is small and petit. With a watch, it is supposed to be comfortable. The bracelet, bangle and thin strap watch therefore makes for great pieces that are fitted on the arm. Choose a watch in gold or silver or both so that it matches everything you wear. These dainty watches can be worn everyday as well as on special occasions.

You may find a lot of bold ladies watches this season as well. Statement ladies watches are usually time pieces that have large faces and thick straps. These are more trendy but cannot always be worn everywhere and with everything.

Carefully Considering Online Suppliers Of Watches

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Many people say that they do not like purchasing anything online. They do not find it safe and are afraid of giving any credit details over the internet. While there are a few unsafe places, not all are bad. You will find many reputable and secure online stores operating in the UK.

When it comes to buying watches online, you have to be careful not to fall into the trap of purchasing fake items. These watches look real but because they are not designed by the labels that are engraved on them, you would have either wasted your money or find yourself with a green wrist.

Here at ROX, we offer an amazing selection of watches online.  These pieces are all original and you can make your purchase from the comfort and convenience of your own home. What makes us here at ROX so impressive is that we have such a great variety for both men and women. You can purchase ones designed by big names such as DKNY, Citizen, Hugo Boss, Gucci, Breil and so much more.

How to make an online purchase

Before you make an online transaction for designer watches, there are a few things that you need to consider. As mentioned above where you buy is very important. Make sure that you are certain about the quality, safety and guarantees offered by a particular online store.

Also, choose wisely and take your time. Online catalogues make it possible for you to have a look at all designer watches before selecting a watch you really like.

Guys Like Cool Stuff Too

Friday, November 27th, 2009

It tends to be forgotten, mainly due to taking the risk of sounding feminine, that men like to wear jewellery to accessorise just as much as women do. This is the first thing to keep in mind when your guy’s next birthday comes up, or there is a special occasion and you want to give him a special time piece.

Men have moved forward from the time when they just wore a bland-looking, functional watch that tells the time. Just as much as men now like designer clothes, they want one or more designer watches. The market of course caters brilliantly to this, and all the top clothes designers now also sport watch ranges. This makes getting the perfect gift so much easier for the ladies.

What to look for

If you really want to surprise your guy with a watch that he will absolutely like and wear, you have to know him well. Who is his favourite designer and what type of watches does he normally go for? Next comes your guy’s personality; gents watches have to match the personalities of the wearer or your gift will lie forgotten in a drawer. Bear in mind how modest or outgoing he is, in particular.

Come to ROX and browse the different designer categories, and you will find what you are looking for.  Once you have a shortlist of possibilities, you must think about where and how he is going to use that watch. Is he sporty or has a physical job, or is he a boardroom type of man?  Once you have these criteria in place, you will find the perfect gents watches amongst all the great offerings we have and your guy will get the perfect gift.

So What If Watches Keep Time?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Women once had to cope with small watch faces and tiny straps that oozed modesty, or a scaled-down version of a man’s watch. This was due to a lack of market in watches, particularly women’s ones that were all about functionality. Now, like many other things, watches are a statement of fashion, and this tradition has therefore been broken.

Women’s watches today are bold, colourful and they make a huge statement. The fact that they tell the time is a fraction of the reason for their purchase in modern times. Women today revel in the sheer magnitude of choice they have when they choose a time piece. Today, women’s watches are accessories and pieces of jewellery that are highly sought-after.

Bold, elegant or glitzy?

Ladies watches have become a top accessory; you simply don’t feel completely dressed with the perfect time piece on your arm that matches your look, your outfit and your mood. At ROX we fully understand the need for women to have a watch for each occasion and cater to that with offerings from all the top designers.

Elegant gold and diamond ladies watches
round off an outfit on a special evening out, or an intricate worked silver and steel watch makes your look extra smart. Women like bold and big watches that come in a myriad of shapes; rectangle and oval and curving around the wrist. The bottom line is that when you want to complete your wardrobe you need that perfect watch that tells the world who you are.

Watch Out!

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Watches can sometimes be seen as plainly functional pieces of jewellery for both men and women, although women often indulge in timepieces that are a little more eye-catching. However, time is of the essence in everyone’s day and men’s watches are coming into their own in recent years. As they say, there is a time for everything and at Rox there are mens watches for every time and occasion.

Changing style

When you look at a watch, it is first and foremost a functional item. Secondly, it is a piece of jewellery and as such performs a role in your daily look – whether you think about it or not. What does your watch say about you?  The sheer variety available in men’s watches these days offers you the chance to kit yourself out with a watch to suit every look from formal to casual, sporting and even a bit quirky.

Branded watches from top designers are also available for those discerning men out there who simply know style when they see it and always want to look their best.
