The World’s Greatest Diamond Jewellery

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

The most famous (and valuable!) diamond jewellery pieces in the world are mostly in royal collections, but some are in private hands or in museum collections where they can be viewed by the public. These remarkable items not only illustrate the magnificence of diamonds and the truly incredibly jewellery made to house them, but each one also has a story that reminds us of the exotic and tempestuous history of the diamond trade.

The great Koh-I-Noor, for example, was found in the early 14th Century and originally graced the magnificent diamond jewellery collection of an Indian Rajah. When India was added to the British Empire, the Koh-I-Noor was taken to London, recut, and placed in the Queen’s Crown Jewels. At 186 carats, this is truly massive diamond, taken as a prize of conquest at the height of the British Empire’s power.

The Cartier or Taylor-Burton diamond is without doubt one of the greatest in the world. It was found in 1966 in southern Africa and given to Elizabeth Taylor by the actor Richard Burton, weighing more than 60 carats after cutting. Far from ending its days as piece of jewellery in a case, this stone was later sold to raise funds for hospital in Botswana, not far from where it was mined.

The history of diamonds is a rich and varied one, but one thing has stayed constant – the appreciation of these beautiful stones and their outstanding value.

Eternity Rings – For A Love That Lasts Forever

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

True love is something that deserves to be celebrated, and there’s no better way of signifying that special bond than by giving your partner a beautiful eternity ring. Eternity rings are given as a way to show your undying love for one another, symbolizing your devotion in the best possible way.

There tends to be a set route that people go down when it comes to these rings. First of all there’ll be the engagement ring, then the wedding ring, and then eternity rings are the icing on the cake that finishes the whole thing off. They’re a traditional symbol of commitment to each other, and have long been used as a way to solidify the marital bond.

Some people simply don’t want to go down the traditional route, and that’s fine too – eternity rings can be a great alternative to show your love and commitment, and are often given to symbolise that love even without a wedding ring.

Diamonds traditionally form the basis of these rings, and doing so makes perfect sense. Diamond rings, and diamonds in general, have always been a symbol of true love, so what could be better than showing that love through a beautiful diamond eternity ring?

Giving your loved one an eternity ring is sure to fill them with happiness. Perhaps you want to do it as a surprise for an anniversary, or you simply have no other reason than “just because”. Whatever your reasons and whenever you’re going to do it, you’ll need to come to us here at ROX where you’ll find a fantastic selection of truly stunning eternity rings that can’t fail to impress.

The Tradition Of Diamond Engagement Rings

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

These days, the giving of diamond engagement rings when proposing is commonplace. It’s the “done” thing to do, and any woman that wasn’t presented with a diamond would probably be quite shocked! But, it hasn’t always been that way.

In fact, the first diamond engagement ring wasn’t actually seen until 1477 when the Archduke Maximilian of Austria became betrothed to Mary of Burgundy. Up until that point plain metal bands were given instead, and even after that time diamond rings certainly weren’t common.

It was more common to see other forms of betrothal gifts being given at this time, and basic engagement rings weren’t seen in the Western world until the end of the 19th Century. Even then, the giving of diamond engagement rings didn’t become standard until the 1930’s – but those days are long behind us.

ROX Signature white gold diamond ring 1.27ctsNow, the giving of diamond engagement rings is common practice throughout the West, with at least 80% of all proposals having a diamond ring at the heart of it. It isn’t surprising really seeing that diamonds have come to be the symbol of love, affection and devotion, so what could be a better way to show your love than by presenting your soon-to-be fiancee with a stunning diamond ring?

Here at ROX, we understand just how important diamond engagement rings can be. We’ve grown with this tradition and stock a fantastic selection of options for you to choose from, so come to us to find the perfect diamond ring and she won’t be able to say no.

Why Diamonds Are Forever

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

We’ve all heard the saying that diamonds are forever, but there’s a lot more truth to that statement than you may initially realise. Diamond jewellery will stand the test of time, and surprising someone with a beautiful piece will definitely put you in their good books.

Diamond jewellery is classic, timeless and really can go with anything. It adds instant sparkle to any outfit, and it can’t fail to impress anyone that sets eyes on it. Rings are the obvious choice but there are numerous other options including diamond bracelets and necklaces, and just one single piece can make all the difference to an outfit.

9ct white gold diamond cross bracelet 0.07ctSaying that diamonds will stand the test of time isn’t just a cliche either – they actually will. Not only can diamond jewellery be handed down from generation to generation, each time being just as timeless as the last, but diamonds themselves are practically indestructible. Even if the setting becomes old or past its best the diamonds will forever remain lustrous, giving something that really can be treasured for a lifetime – and beyond.

Because diamonds really are forever they’re the perfect symbol of love and devotion, and make the ideal gifts for anyone that really wants to show a loved one how they feel. That’s why they’re so popular for proposing with, and here at ROX we understand just how special they can be. So, if you’re looking for the ultimate piece of diamond jewellery, make sure to come to us and see what you can find.

Diamonds – Does Size Really Matter?

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

When it comes to diamonds, it’s long been thought that bigger is better. But is that always the case? In some instances it’s perfectly possible for smaller diamond rings to be just as good (if not better) as larger ones, provided you choose wisely.

The size of a diamond is measured in carats, and generally speaking the higher the number of carats the larger, more expensive and “better” it’s deemed to be. But, you still need to take into account other factors before you can decide if these diamond rings are right for you.

When you’re choosing your perfect diamond rings, it’s often just as much about cut, colour and clarity as it is about carats. There’s no good having a huge rock if it’s full of inflections and isn’t the stunningly clear colour that you want it to be, so you always need to consider these other important facets as they can make all the difference between a good diamond and a bad one.

18ct white gold diamond cluster ring 0.46ctThen there’s the fact that if you get cluster rings, for example, you’ll need smaller diamonds to have the right level of impact. Several smaller diamonds clustered together can look just as stunning as one big one, and if they’re all of exceptional colour and clarity you’ve got a ring you can be proud of.

So, in the world of diamonds, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. But it still can’t be denied that there’s something about having a huge rock on your finger, so if you want diamond rings that have the carat, colour, clarity and cut that you’re looking for, make sure to come to us here at ROX and we’ll gladly point you in the right direction.
