SWISS TO THE CORE

3rd March 2017

Tudor is one of the most exciting and dynamic watch makers, and therefore every time they release a new piece – or redesign a style – there is a lot of interest in the end product. This is excellent news, but sometimes in all the commotion the details and information that reveal just how special the pieces are can get overlooked.

TUDOR
Heritage Black Bay 36

All Tudor timepieces are 100% Swiss – not just Swiss made, where large portions of the watch can be built or assembled elsewhere – and this is the case with the 36. Designed to exhibit some of the most popular elements of other Tudor pieces, the 36 features snowflake hands and a screw down crown, and the polished steel bezel keeps it looking smart and dressy. The smaller case size has proved popular not just with ladies who enjoy the styling, but also with gents who have a smaller wrist. The model featured here is supplied on a gorgeous brushed steel bracelet, and comes with an additional canvas strap.

It’s worth saying again that Tudor don’t like standing still, so creating the enormously popular Black Bay was not enough – it needed improving. The key to this improvement was in the creation of a brand new in-house Chronometer certified movement to power the watch. The model featured here is supplied in a beautiful aged leather strap with a steel deployment clasp, as well as with an additional fabric strap.

TUDOR
Heritage Black Bay Chrono

The first chronograph member of the Black Bay family was always going to have to be not only a fantastic timepiece, but an exceptional piece of engineering. The COSC certified chronograph movement in the Black Bay Chrono is the result of a new collaboration with Breitling, and Tudor have made their own improvements to the rotor, regulation system and balance spring resulting in truly exceptional performance. The symmetrical dial layout with counters at 3 and 9 o’clock, and date window a 6 o’clock, is clean and satisfying – and is right on trend. Swapping out the tradition Black Bay rotating dive bezel for the fixed tachymeter on the Chrono was a really smart decision, and the Chrono looks bolder, sportier and more masculine. It’s no wonder the Chrono is a Baselworld favourite for Gear Patrol, t3 and Esquire! Featured here on a steel bracelet the Chrono is supplied with an additional fabric strap.
